Most people experience a certain level of anxiety when they visit the dentist. But for some people, that anxiety can be a little overwhelming. Fortunately, there are sedation dentistry methods that help to alleviate stress, and Dr. Burnett is pleased to offer some of these sedation options to his patients in and around the Garland, TX, area.
Sedation Dentistry Methods Available at Burnett Dentistry
Each person’s level of anxiety is different. Some patients are more nervous than others. In order to ensure that all of our patients are comfortable and at ease during their visits to our office, we offer the following forms of sedation dentistry:
- Nitrous Oxide – Many people call nitrous oxide “laughing gas,” and with good reason. This mild sedation is inhaled by the patient while in the dentist chair, making them feel completely at ease and just a little giddy. Laughing gas wears off quickly, and patients can typically drive themselves home after the procedure.
- Minimal Sedation – If you experience a somewhat higher level of anxiety when visiting our office, Dr. Burnett may recommend minimal sedation. Similar to nitrous oxide, minimal sedation allows the patient to remain awake during their entire dental visit, but feel totally calm and at ease. Most mild sedatives used in minimal sedation dentistry can be taken orally, and although the patient will remain awake during the procedure, he or she may not remember much of the visit. Some oral sedatives can be taken before the patient reaches the dentist office. Because of that, some patients may need a ride to the dentist office, and all patients using minimal sedation should arrange for a ride home afterward as well.
Dr. Burnett understands that some people feel anxious when visiting the dentist. It is our goal to make everyone feel as much at ease as possible, so that every visit to our Garland, TX, office is a pleasant experience.
